GA-Genomics: Diving deep into the genomic diversity of (meta)populations

The GA-Genomics Project creates a technological platform (the Genomics Platform) at ILVO to introduce Next Generation DNA Sequencing (NGS) technology and corresponding bio-informatics tools for genome analysis into all ILVO research units. NGS technology enables analysis of the genetic composition, the biological properties and the dynamic changes of organisms and populations with an unprecedented resolution. The GA-Genomics Project addresses the central questions “How does the genomic composition of a population change when influenced by environmental factors or treatments? What is the optimal population composition for a specific agronomical or marine application?”

Over 20 scientists are currently involved in the establishment of the Genomics Platform. Four PhD students work on the project, in collaboration with the VIB Department of Plant Systems Biology at Ghent University (PSB), other departments of Ghent University, and KU Leuven.

Period: 1 October 2013 - 30 September 2017.
